Fully-produced mainstage productions (both musicals and plays) built of foraged pieces, both material and ephemeral, from every part of our community - harvesting the fruits of our labor, the lessons learned, and the creative artists from our other three branches to inspire these shows
We create innovative reimaginings of existing musicals, excavating the personal and political questions beneath the text and bringing them to the forefront, with unique production elements
We also mount bold original theatrical works, exploring the fraught dynamics of queer liberation, environmentally-friendly living, and generational trauma through plays that are both absurdly dark and absurdly funny
These productions are enriched by our other branches - Take Root, Unearth, and Blossom - as the artists take their teachings and apply them to their roles in our full-fledged Harvests!
Flora the Red Menace
May 2-5, 2024 | Court Square Theater
Original Forager Harvest Production.
Kander & Ebb's first musical Flora the Red Menace is a tale about labor rights, female self-actualization, and the power of community in Depression-era NYC. Forager’s production featured an original 20ftx10ft social realist mural on the back wall to explore how all personal actions are political and nuance in a time of extremism is the hardest cloth to cut.

A remount of Forager’s in-the-round immersive production at The New Ohio, we brought this exhilarating story of Jonathan Larson to Ithaca, NY, with the same focus on the pain and euphoria of the artist’s life. This youthful celebration of the human spirit gave us a chance for hundreds of new audience members to wish Jonathan a happy birthday!
Fluffy The Pine

Fluffy the Pine is an environmentally-friendly dysfunctional-family musical comedy by pop duo Nikki Sorentino & Susan Paroff full of high-octane music, hilarious characters, and heartfelt story. Following Fluffy from a rural tree farm in Alaska to the Big Apple, it’s a magical holiday adventure about the power of belief in one’s tree self.
Tides

Tides is a play that explores an America where being queer and trans is outlawed, and how those people refuse to be quiet in a society fighting to contain those fires. Written by Eliana Rubin, it explores the nuances of life at three unique moments in this alternate history, from the peaceful living room to the violent streets to the very halls of power.

Originating as a rock monologue by Jonathan Larson, tick, tick… BOOM! is a deeply personal look into the life of an artist battling the existential question: compromise or persevere? Forager’s production set the show in Jon’s SoHo living room with semi-immersive, in-the-round staging, a live band rockin’ out in the 90s, and a powerful sense of creative purpose.
Spring Awakening

Performed by a dynamic young cast, Forager took on the powerful, painful musical Spring Awakening with an eye to bringing these 19th-century German characters to full modern light. With emotive, evocative choreography and all-acoustic music direction, it reminded us how we may be totally f***ed, but the lost still walk behind you.
